Eggs. Sugar. Flour.
Pacing up and down the aisles of the local grocery store, you located the necessary ingredients needed to bake a cake.
You weren't planning on baking any ordinary cake, though.
No.
Today, you would be baking with your dear friend and neighbor.

~

Earlier that week, you had witnessed one of the teenager's frequent outbursts.

On that particular day, his guardian had insisted the boy stay out of the kitchen while lunch was being prepared to prevent him from getting burned or otherwise injured.
Even though it was out of concern, your friend wasted no time in expressing his disapproval over the suggestion by throwing a rather violent tantrum.

Ever since then, your blonde haired friend had been in a rather foul mood. So you planned on surprising him by offering to give him some cooking lessons. Or in this case, baking lessons.

~

After paying for the selected ingredients and exiting the store, you pulled out your cell phone.

You : Hey Alois! What's up?
Alois : Nothing, just bored. Wanna hang out?
You : Right now?
Alois : Yeah!~ Claude went out shopping, so having some company would be nice

Perfect.
After sending a confirmation text with your estimated arrival time, you collected the grocery bags and made your way to your neighbor's home.

~

You had met Alois approximately four months earlier when he moved into a vacant house next door to you.
The first reason you were initially drawn to him was his beautiful teal eyes.
Not to mention his thick, British accent.

Upon your first interaction with the newcomer, he seemed to be very cheerful and friendly.
After spending some time with him, however, he seemed a bit distant.

Alois gave off the aura of someone who had been alone most of his life.
This feeling intensified when the boy began treating you as if you were the first friend he had ever made. He was very clingy to you, and always wanted to be in your presence.

Because of this, you wanted to make him feel welcome and content in his new home and neighborhood.
Within the short amount of time of knowing him, you and Alois had become very close friends.

~

"[Name]! It's about time you got here!" The blonde teenager greeted you at the door. The moment you stepped through the doorway, Alois's attention immediately dropped to your side.

"What do you have there?" He asked curiously, pointing at the grocery bags in your hand.

You smiled. "I thought it would be fun to bake a cake together."

Your friend's eyes lit up and a smile instantly appeared on his face at the suggestion.

"Why didn't you say something sooner?!" He asked, practically running towards the kitchen.

Laughing to yourself, you quickly followed behind.

~

"How many eggs do we need?" The blonde teen asked as he opened the carton of eggs.

"Three." You replied.

After you finished measuring the proper amount of sugar and poured it into a large mixing bowl, you stepped aside for Alois to take your place at the kitchen counter.
Alois wasted no time in cracking each egg and allowing its contents to fall perfectly into the bowl. Watching the boy, a smile tugged at your lips when you noticed how happy he looked.

"Having fun?" You asked as you poured the required amount of flour into the measuring cup.

"Of course I am!" He stated happily before looking down. "Claude would never take the time to bake with me." He added, the smile instantly vanishing from his features.

"About that..." You began, earning the boy's attention. "If you don't mind me asking, who is Claude to you? And what about Hannah and the triplets? Are they really your guardians?" You inquired.

After a few moments of silence, an unpleasant frown spread across Alois's face.

"They're all a bunch of useless imbeciles, the whole lot of them." He stated bitterly.

"I don't care much for Hannah or those bloody triplets. They're only here because they have to be. Even Claude can't stand being near me for long. He may not say it, but I know he thinks I'm just a flawed, disgusting brat... Maybe he's right..." His voice trailed off as tears began to well up in his eyes.

"That's not true." You answered quickly in some hope that it would cheer him up.

Instead, Alois turned to look at you, a clearly annoyed expression on his face.

"What do you know?!" He snapped.

"Well..." You thought for a moment. "All I know is that I enjoy spending time with you, Alois. You're always kind and caring to me. You say you have flaws? So what? Everyone is flawed in some way. Even Claude must have his flaws. But those flaws are what make you who you are. You're a wonderful friend, Alois. I'm lucky to have met you, and I wouldn't trade you for anything or anyone."

A light blush rose to your cheeks when you noticed Alois staring at you, his eyes wide in shock.

"Do... you really mean that? Are you really happy... I'm in your life?" He asked slowly. For a moment, it almost seemed like he was afraid he hadn't heard you correctly.

You nodded and smiled. "Of course I do. I mean every word of it."

Tears immediately began to run down the boy's face. He looked at you, giving you a genuine smile.

"Thank you, [Name]." Alois replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

"You don't need to thank me." You said while handing him a tissue.

"Instead, how about we finish making this cake?" You suggested with a smile. Drying his eyes, the blonde teen smiled back and nodded.

~

After putting the last of the ingredients into the mixing bowl, you retrieved the electric mixer out of a nearby cupboard.

"Can I?" Alois inquired and gestured towards the mixer.

"Sure." You replied, handing it over to your friend.

"Put it in the bowl, flip the switch on, and start mixing." You instructed.

Nodding, Alois followed what you said and began mixing the ingredients together.

"Just make sure you don't-"

"What are you two doing?"

The moment Claude's voice filled the room, Alois turned around to greet the man clad in black.
But as he turned, the mixer lifted up from the bowl.
Cake batter was sent flying through the air. It landed on the wall, on you and Alois, on the counter, and all over Claude when he grabbed the mixer to shut it off.

Time seemed to freeze for several long moments.
No one moved. No one said anything.
The only noise that broke through the silence was the beeping of the oven, signaling that it was pre-heated and ready for use.

When Claude slowly reached up to wipe the cake batter from his glasses, both you and Alois began laughing.

"Claude, you look so stupid! Hahaha!" Alois exclaimed, pointing at the older man and laughing even more.

"I believe it would be best if you both left the kitchen so I could clean up this mess." Claude advised in a calm yet threatening-like manner.

"But our cake!" Alois began to protest.

"Most of our cake is all over us and the kitchen." You interjected.

"And on Claude." Alois added, sending you both into another fit of giggles.

Removing his batter-covered glasses and tucking them into the pocket of his soiled coat, Claude silently walked over to one of the many kitchen drawers and pulled out a package of cupcake wrappers.
He then walked over to you and handed them over.

"I assume you could finish this quickly?" Claude frowned at you, seeing the noticeable smile still present on your face.

Before you had time to answer, or continue laughing at him, the raven haired man stormed out of the kitchen.

Suddenly, you felt something wet run across your cheek. Glancing over, you saw Alois licking a glob of cake batter off your face.

"Mmmm. Delicious~" He stated, smirking at your blushing form.

~

After dealing with that minor setback, you were able to salvage just enough cake batter to make enough cupcakes for both you and Alois to enjoy.

~

"We should cook together more often." Alois suggested as you were about to leave. You smiled.

"Absolutely. It was a lot of fun, and I have tons of recipes at home that we could try."

"Oh? Then next time we should do this at your place. Maybe we can put some buns in your oven~" Your friend seductively replied with a wink.
As your face heated up once again, Alois started to laugh.

"I'm joking, I'm joking." He said, earning a nervous chuckle from you.

"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Alois." You smiled. "Have a good night."

As you turned around to leave, your friend's voice called out to you.

"[Name], wait."

Turning back to him, you were met by his tongue sliding across your lower lip.

"There was some icing you missed~"

I have produced another abomination!! Laugh

No, but seriously....
After promising this fanfic for the past few months, I FINALLY was able to post it!

I'm so used to thinking of and writing angst-filled fanfics when it comes to Alois, so I wanted to try something a little different.

This is for my good friend :iconwinxmewgirl:
I really, really hope you like this, Cynthia-chan. ^^;
And I hope it was worth the wait.
Again, I'm sorry it took so long xD

I dunno if you noticed this or not, but I made this about cooking/baking since you told me that you really enjoy cooking.
So hopefully you'll like it! ;u;

Now!
Some important information about this fanfic!!

You may notice that I refer to Claude as Alois's "guardian".

That's because this is a modern AU fic.
And not many people have butlers or servants nowadays... unless you're rich or famous.
Or both. xD

Anyway... I hope this isn't too horrible.
And I hope you all enjoy it <33

I ACCIDENTALLY READ "BUN IN THE OVEN" AS "BURN IN THE OVEN" AND IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF TALE OF ABANDONMENT ON A MOONLIT NIGHT FROM EVILLIOUS CHRONICLES
